Astreos Flash posted at 14-1 upset in the $88,600 Slots Cup Final at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday evening for trainer/driver Larry Small.
The four-year-old gelding out of Astreos got away fourth as the post time favourite Mach It Paid (Marc St. Louis, Jr.) posted a :25.3 opening panel. After the :54.4 half, Astreos Flash advanced on the outside capturing the lead by a nose at the third quarter pole in 1:23.2. He pulled away by four and half lengths to score in 1:53 flat.
Zambuca Gass (Reginald Gassien) came on for second and Phil Lucky (Brad Forward) got third.
Astreos Flash picked up his sixth win and boosted his lifetime earnings to $87,352 for owner John Christensen of Scarborough, Ont.
In other action, driver Brad Foward posted four wins on the 11-race card. He sports a total of 2,912 wins to date.
