Trainer Jennifer Rankin broke new ground at Grand River Raceway on Friday as she became the first female guest announcer in the track’s From Bike To Mic series.

Rankin was on double-duty, with two starters on the card. During an interview with Tarmac Show host Darryl MacArthur prior to the gig, Rankin confessed to extreme nervousness.

“In closing, is there anything you’d like to say to our viewers before we head upstairs to the announcer’s booth?” MacArthur asked. “I’m sorry,” quipped Rankin.

Her steady call of race six saw Milliondollardad cruise to his third consecutive win for owners Kerry and Shirley House of St. Jacobs, Ont. Driver Ken Oliver also trains the four-year-old pacer, who is now a winner of 13 races and $54,000.

Driver Travis Bowman will fill the final spot of From Bike To Mic on October 5.

On October 6, an online poll will give fans the opportunity to vote for their favourites of the 16 guest announcers. The top three will advance to the final round, where three pro announcers will determine the best of the bunch. The winner will be crowned during the track’s final race card of 2012 on October 12.
