Leamington Raceway played host to a ten-dash card of live harness racing on Sunday (September 24), and the richest race on the card, which carried a purse of $3,800, was captured by a 7-1 shot that made things look relatively easy.

Three-year-old Rambaran gelding Debs New Man ($17.20) was the one that turned the trick. The Larry Fitzsimmons-trained and Nic Steward-driven bay started from Post 3, raced on the point (:28, 1:00.4, 1:30.2) and closed in :30.1 for a three-quarters of one-length win.

Out Think Em (Don Rankin Jr.) closed well to pick up second. Sweet Sheets (Mark Williams) raced a first-over trip and finished third.

Debs New Man is owned by William Durkin of Sparta, Ont.

The win was one of two on the day for Steward. Pilot Don Rankin Jr. had a big day, as he drove the winners of four of the day’s ten races. Tyler Borth also drove a pair of winners on the card.
