Reports from Sweden indicate that 2021 Hambletonian winner Captain Corey has been injured and will not race again this season.

"He has suffered a hoof bone fracture," said trainer Åke Svanstedt according to Sweden's Travronden. "It took a specialist to find the crack. It's not that serious, but the horse can not start again this year. We had aimed for Kentucky Futurity and Breeders Crown and it is of course a pity that we now miss these races."

Svanstedt went on to say that the prognosis for a full recovery is positive, "but it depends on how the owners choose to do. Otherwise, I think this is a horse that has good opportunities to become good even as an older [competitor]. I, the [trainer],of course want him to continue competing."

The current top tanked horse in North American harness racing, Captain Corey (Googoo Gaagaa - Luv U All) is owned by Svanstedt along with S R F Stable, Knutsson Trotting and Midnight Sun Partners. Captain Corey boasts a North America-leading $758,695 in earnings this year with $1,090,333 lifetime.

Captain Corey is presently the leader for HOTY, but with this injury, I don't know that he'll win the award. He's only made 7 starts, and no horse that raced less than 10 times in one year has ever won the award.
