Preferred Mania In Charlottetown

Heavily-favoured Rose Run Quest survived a parked out trip to take home bragging rights in Saturday’s $2,650 Preferred 1 for pacers at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

In rein to trainer/driver Marc Campbell, Rose Run Quest was out the whole mile before kicking home in :28 to win by a neck over Czar Seelster. Euchred, who also spent the entire mile on the outside looking in, was third.

Blair Hansen of Charlottetown, PE owns the six-year-old son of If I Can Dream-Letmedowneasy who won for the eighth time this season. The 28-time winner has banked more than $130,000 to date.

Adkins Hanover was a wire-to-wire winner for driver David Dowling in the $2,350 Preferred 2 for pacers.

The nine-year-old son of Western Ideal-Allamerican Nadia rolled the field through intervals of :27.4, :56.2 and 1:25.2 before using a :29-second closing quarter to win by three-quarters of a length over Elm Grove Kaboom. I C True Grit took home third prize in the eight-horse affair.

Trevor Hicken trains the gelding for owner Perry Burke of Grosse-Ile, QC. It was the third win of the season – and the 39th to date – for the career winner of $226,952.

Shadows Mystery came out on top in the $2,350 Fillies & Mares Open for the tandem of driver Adam Merner and owner/trainer Gord Ford.

The seven-year-old daughter of Shadow Play-Myrnas Jackpot got away third and watched Dustlanemissmolly spring through first-half fractions of :28.1 and :56.3. Shadows Mystery made a big move in the backstretch, and she was the new leader at the three-quarter pole in 1:26.4. She then used a :28.4 closing kick to win by 2-1/2 lengths over race favourite Sodwana Bay in 1:55.3. Finishing third was West River Ambyr.

Sent off at odds of 12-1, the distaffer improved this year’s record to 4-2-1 from 13 trips postward. The 18-time winner has banked close to $85,000 this year.
