Officials with the Little Brown have announced that the opening-heat eliminations for the Jugette for three-year-old pacing fillies have been drawn and are now set for Wednesday, September 23 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio.
The race office had initially drawn the fields for the opening heat, but they had to be redrawn due to clerical error.
The 45th edition of the Jugette will see a total of 12 fillies battle it out in the opening heat. The opening heat will feature a pair of $50,450 eliminations, each of which will house a field of six starters. The top four finishers from each of the opening-heat eliminations will advance to the ‘winner take all’ second heat, which carries a purse of $151,350.
The second elimination features the two richest entries, Sassa Hanover and Band Of Angels.
World champion Sassa Hanover has drawn the outermost starting spot (Post 6) in the second elimination. The daughter of Rock N Roll Heaven owns a lifetime mark of 1:49.4 and has earned $704,002 for owners Burke Racing Stable, The Panhellenic Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Lawrence Karr.
Band Of Angels won the $225,000 New York Sire Stakes Final on September 12 and has earned $462,745 for her owner, W. J. Donovan of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The daughter of the 2010 Little Brown Jug champion Rock N Roll Heaven will start from Post 3.
Yannick Gingras was named to drive both Sassa Hanover and Band Of Angels.
The morning line favourite for the first elimination is Southwind Roulette, who will start from Post 2.
Although winless in 2015, the daughter of Somebeachsomewhere has amassed $405,971 in career earnings for Bradley Grant and Howard Taylor. Southwind Roulette was third in the $350,000 Pennsylvania Sires Stakes Final in her last start, which came on September 5. Matt Kakaley has been named to drive.
