Trotters In Spotlight At Georgian

The headlines belonged to the trotters on Tuesday evening at Georgian Downs, as one square-gaiter extended his win streak and another eked out a narrow score

in the feature race.

It was Mystical Ryan taking home bragging rights in this week’s edition of the $15,000 Preferred, thanks in part to a perfect pocket trip mapped out by teamster Mario Baillargeon. The Ben Baillargeon pupil chopped out a 28-second opener before enjoyed a garden trip behind Ericskarri through middle split of :56.1 and 1:26.1.

They renewed their rival at the head of the lane when Baillargeon popped the pocket with Mystical Ryan, who used a :29.2 final frame to secure the quarter-length decision over Zorgwijk Fortunate and Mystic Conquest in a time of 1:55.4.

The seven-year-old son of Striking Sahbra, who was sent off as the 3-2 favourite, is now a 19-time winner in his career and a three-time winner this season. Frank Cirillo of Kleinburg, ON holds the papers on the career winner of $390,082.

Earlier on the program Coup De Foudre extended his win streak to five-in-a-row for Team Allard – owner/trainer Rene and his sulky-sitting brother, Simon. And just as Baillargeon did in the feature race, Allard worked out a two-hole ride with the five-year-old daughter of Victorys Force who popped out late and drew off to win by more than a pair of lengths in 1:59.2.

It was her sixth win of the season in just 19 trips postward, and the lion’s share of the $8,500 purse bumped her career stash of cash to $40,516.
