Bob McClure put the pedal to the metal early with Rise Up Now in Thursday’s $7,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers, and the speedy gelding torched the oval in 1:52.

Rise Up Now blasted to the lead from Post 1 and knifed his way through fractions of :27, :55.2 and 1:23. His :29-second closing panel was good enough to hold on for the half-length triumph over Windsong Lord. Tero tagged along to grab the show dough.

Richard Moreau trains the five-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-Northwestern for owner Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. Sent off as the even-money favourite, Rise Up Now improved this year’s record to 6-1-2 from 25 starts with the victory. The 20-time winner has banked just shy of $280,000 to date.
