Preceptor Debuts A Winner In N.S. Stake

Two-year-old pacing colt Preceptor was a winner right out of the starting gate on Sunday at Truro Raceway, going wire-to-wire to win the $8,940 Nova Scotia Series Stake.

Making his first career start in Sunday's colt stakes division, Preceptor took charge of his rivals and led through fractions of :30.2, 1:01.4 and 1:31.4 en route to the four and a half length triumph in 2:01.1. P H Blackjack and the debuting Wshnonawesternstar rounded out the field.

Paul Langille trains and drives the Vintage Master colt for Rosanne Langille of Lower Onslow, N.S.

In the $9,130 two-year-old pacing filly division, Paradise Paradox also scored a maiden-breaking victory for trainer/driver Bernard McCallum.

The daughter of Western Paradise carved out fractions of :28, :59.1 and 1:30.3 before stopping the clock in 2:00.2. Queenofthedreams finished three-quarters of a length behind in second after launching a late challenge from the pocket. West River Ambyr followed in third and Pictonian Rachel completed the order of finish.

Paradise Paradox now has four top three finishes from seven career starts and earnings of $10,469 for her California connections, Ronald and Charles Mansfield, and Joshua Schoeneman.

In regular racing action, Barona Lilac scored another victory in the weekly $1,375 Winners Over class racing for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colchester as part of the Cheering For Charity campaign. The Darren Crowe trainee prevailed from the pocket by a head over The Rev in 1:56.2 and pushed her win streak to six.

Members of Big Brothers Big Sisters toured the track on Sunday and helped harness Barona Lilac for her victory.
