After 27 drives, Logan Gillis grabbed the first victory of his career while also scoring his first training victory from his first start when winning at Century Downs on Saturday (Sept. 12).

Gillis steered Kootenay Lager—a horse he recently acquired from Rod Hennessy—to victory in the afternoon’s fifth race, a $3,000 conditioned claiming pace. Stalking from fourth through early fractions of :28.3 and :56.4, Gillis sent the four-year-old Vertical Horizon gelding first over after loose leader Jedi Tricks to three-quarters in 1:27.3 and powered to the front in the stretch. He hit the finish four-and-a-quarter lengths better than Outlawburntpopcorn with Casino Events finishing another five lengths back in third. They paid $12.60 to win.
