The 61st annual Pre-Jug Mixed Sale held August 28 and 29 in Delaware, Ohio featured several hundred racehorses along with a nice group of black-type yearlings and some breeding stock. The market was hot in each division.

The racehorses were led by the potential Open trotter Justify (6, 1:54f) at $48,000. Charley Morgan of Ohio consigned the fast son of Justice Hall along with stablemate Seasoned Saint (4, 1:55.3) that took runner-up honours at $42,000. Brian Carsey endured a spirited bidding war to take Justify home to Indiana and trainer Walter Haynes. Rene Allard was the tenacious under-bidder and immediately jumped back in the fray to obtain the winning Deweycheatumnhowe son Seasoned Saint to race in New York.

Allard Racing was quite active at the sale, also purchasing the promising young Ponder filly Touching Thought (p, 3, 1:54.3) for $30,000 from the Robert McIntosh Stable, as well as the stakes placed three-year-old Credit Winner son Chili for $27,500 from the Spring Haven Farm consignment and the solid conditioned pacer True Blue Hall (p, 4, 1:49.1) for $25,000, among others.

Gene Oldford of Michigan bought out partner Melanie Wrenn on the classy three-year-old Dejarmbro gelding Stormy Kromer for $29,000. Breeders were quite interested in the three-year-old filly Out Of Sight (p, 2, 1:54.4), a sister to New Talent (p, 4, 1:49.2) and out of a half-sister to Thinking Out Loud (p, 4, 1:47.2, $1,932,805). Ted Szczepaniak of Michigan got the nod at $26,000 for the daughter of Mach Three.

Monday’s yearling session was topped by the Swan For All daughter Measuredperfection at $28,000. Bidding was lively for the Indiana-New Jersey dual-eligible filly consigned by Concord Stud Farm with the Burke Racing Stable prevailing. The New York-bred So Surreal colt Rose Run Unafraid, from the Rose Run Farm consignment, was purchased by J.D. Perrin of New York for $22,000. Brian Brown signed the ticket for the Always A Virgin colt Egomania, out of the 100% producer Has An Attitude (p, 3, 1:52), for $20,000.
