The iron tough veteran trotter Abbey Road C will look to go over the $2 million mark in lifetime earnings and defend his title in the Xtreme Rewind featured this Saturday

at Georgian Downs’ third annual Xtreme Horsepower event.

Once again, the 10-year-old gelding, trained by Keith Jones and owned by Margaret Charlton of Sarnia, Ont., will be the richest horse out of the 152 horses competing on the 12-race card. Abbey Road C, a winner of 62 races and $1,994,206, could earn double millionaire status with a win in the $20,000 event.

“How many people get a horse that makes $2 million in their care? It would be a pretty big accomplishment for him. He deserves to get recognized for that, in my opinion,” said Jones.

The accomplishment would be rare indeed as only five Canadian-sired trotters have surpassed the elusive earnings plateau. Abbey Road C could join Peaceful Way, Glorys Comet, Goodtimes, JM Vangogh and Arch Madness in the $2 million club.

The son of Incredible Abe-Jayport Whimsey is listed at the 5-2 favourite in the morning line and will start from Post 6 with Jones driving in the one and a quarter mile race, which will unconventionally send the field clockwise around the Innisfil oval.

Last year, Abbey Road C crushed his rivals in the Rewind with an eight and a half length romp in 2:31.2 over a sloppy track. Heading into this year’s event, Jones says he has prepped his pupil using the same winning strategy as last year.

“I didn’t do anything different and he didn’t seem to mind it,” he laughs.

“There are no other plans for him [after Xtreme],” added Jones. “Where I can get him in is where I can get him in.”

Xtreme action begins at Georgian on Saturday at 6 p.m. with the Xtreme Rewind scheduled for Race 6 (7:55 p.m.) as part of the 12-race card.
