Trotters To Battle For PEI Supremacy

The non-stop action of Old Home Week racing is over for another year, but 2017 still has lots left in store for the racing season at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

A 12-dash card kicks off the rest of the meet at the capital oval on Thursday (August 24) with a 6:30 p.m. post time as the Open trotters meet again, but with a new twist thrown in after the Old Home Week arrival of Kennel Buddy. The David Dowling-owned, trained and driven trotter was a 1:57.1 winner during Old Home Week and gets post five in the tenth-race Open trot Thursday as the morning line choice. The $1,850 event also features Osprey Impact (Walter Cheverie) from post four and Freddie (Marc Campbell) with post six, as the pair look to reignite their dominance in the class.

If it wasn’t for a pylon infraction and subsequent placing in her latest outing, Osprey Impact would be sporting a three-race win streak, and that is enough for race analyst Les MacIsaac to give her his support.

“Osprey Impact’s string of first- and second-place finishes came to an end last week, but nothing lasts forever,” MacIsaac said. “Be prepared for her to redeem herself Thursday night.”

Other Open trot entries include Tyne Valley (Kenny Arsenault), Suicide Shift (Steven Shepherd) and Holy Molie Maggie (Gilles Barrieau).

Sir Native rides a two-race win streak into the seventh race, as the three-year-old daughter of Allamerican Native is undefeated since relocating to red soil. Owned by Robi Hughes and Blair and Eric MacLauchlan, Jason Hughes trains and drives the $100,000 winner from post six in the $1,200 event.

Livin The Moment is another Hughes trainee with a two-race win streak; she carries that into the ninth race from for co-owner Robi Hughes and Québec co-owners Paul Turbide and Maurice Aucoin.

Jeb headlines a field of top pacing horses in the $2,100 finale with Hughes at the lines against other top entries Likely To Win (Adam Merner) and Eagle Jolt (Campbell).
