Freshman fillies of the pacing variety were out in full force going toe-to-toe Monday evening at Mohawk Racetrack in a four-pack of OSS Grassroots divisions.

P L Karis quarter pole-moved to the lead in her $18,000 assignment, and once she cleared she never looked back for driver Chris Christoforou. He powered the daughter of Sportswriter-Taylorlane Action to the front and wound up being on the hook for middle fractions of :56.3 and 1:26. From there she muscled home in :29.2 to win by a nose over Odysseus in 1:55.2. Snappy Dresser rallied from far back to finish third.

Dan Clements of Uxbridge, Ont. owns the daughter of Sportswriter-Taylorlane Action, who hangs her harness bag in the barn of trainer Renaldo Morales III. She owns a 1-0-1 record from three trips postward, and lifted her lifetime earnings to $11,600 to date.

Dudesalady, who enjoyed a ground-saving trip for the majority of the mile, came first-over late and earned a one-length triumph over a heavily-favoured Shewearsthepants in 1:54.3. Village Jamie and Shewearsthepants took turns on the lead through panels of :28, :58 and 1:26.2 before Dudesalady roared to the lead and drew clear. Shewearsthepants held on for the place award, with Village Jamie rounding out the Triactor ticket in the $18,000 affair.

Let go at odds of 8-1, the Howard Okusko, Jr.-trained daughter of Shadow Play-Accountable improved her rookie record to 2-2-0 from four starts for owners M And L Of Delaware LLC and Victoria Dickinson. The $40,000 purchase from last year’s Forest City Yearling Sale has banked more than $15,000 to date.

Shanghai Sugar nabbed a second lifetime win in a career-best clocking of 1:55.1 in the third division for trainer/driver Travis Henry. The rookie rolled to the lead from Post 7 and stole away with sensible splits of :27.2, :57.3 and 1:26.3 before tacking on a :28.3 kicker en route to posting the win by a length over Warrawee Speedy in 1:55.1. Cams Lucky Star came on strong to finish third.

The even-money favourite now owns a 2-1-1 record from four starts for the partnership of Craig Wood, Linda Henry and Glen Wark. The $9,000 purchase from last year’s Canadian Yearling Sale now boasts a cash stash of $33,436.

P L Kahluaa survived a first turn park job en route to capturing the final OSS Grassroots division in 1:54.3 for the tandem of driver Sylvain Filion and trainer Richard Moreau. Parked wide by Braonach and Sports Leader, P L Kahluaa worked her way to the lead and crossed down to the pylons by the time the field headed into the backstretch. She was three-wide to the quarter in :27.3, but then raced comfortably on the lead through fractions of :56.3 and 1:26.3. When called on to sprint by driver Filion, the odds-on favourite responded with a :28-second kicker. Amulet Seelster rallied to grab the runner-up award, with Braonach taking home third prize.

The daughter of Sportswriter-B R Dot Cam, who races for 9303 3868 Quebec Inc of Blainville, QC, now owns a 2-1-0 record from five trips to the track. The $6,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale, has already stashed away close to $24,000 to date.
