The J. Dailey Triple

In a certain harness racing rarity at Scioto Downs, brothers Jeff, Jack, and Jim Dailey drove the horses that finished first, second, and third in the nine-horse race.

Jeff Dailey was the winner in the ninth race behind Whats The Hurry while younger brother Jack was second with Look Lyndsay and older brother Jim finished third driving Forever Showin Off.

Whats The Hurry paid $19.60 to win, which is ironically the year when the eldest Dailey brother (Jim) was born. The 5-4-8 trifecta paid $119.60, exactly one hundred dollars more than the win payoff.

Both Jim Dailey, 49, and Jeff, 48, were born in Jamestown, Ohio. Younger brother Jack, 44, was born in nearby Washington Court House. They now live in different communities in central Ohio and compete regularly at Scioto Downs.

It was a gala Ohio Sires Stakes night at Scioto Downs on Friday with four splits of sophomore fillies, two at each gait, going to the post.

Once again the sophomore pacing lass Lavish Liz was the star of the OHSS show as she zoomed to a 1:52.2 victory for driver Chip Noble and trainer Mike Conklin. It was her sixth win in 13 starts this season and she’s never been worse than second in 2009.

Hoosier Cruiser and driver Kyle Ater took control of the race at the half-mile marker and tried valiantly to stave off the attack of Lavish Liz, all to no avail. Hoosier Cruiser was three-quarters of a length back in second while Stablecreekcruiser picked up the third-place check.

James Coffman and Martha Handschumaker own the talented daughter of Towner’s Big Guy.

The other division of sophomore pacing fillies in the OHSS went to Best Of Ball with trainer-driver Jim Dailey in the bike as she hit the wire in 1:54 to win over Jellyfish Joy and Sam’s Shuffle. It was the sixth win in seven starts this season for the Presidential Ball filly.

Best Of Ball started from the outside post seven but still went off at 1-2 odds and set all the pace in the mile. She held on to win by three-quarters of a length.

Rose Run Keepsake was extremely impressive in her 1:56.4 score over OHSS sophomore trotting fillies. Dan Noble steered the lass for trainer Tom Blankenship as she trounced Fox Avenue Mom and Mocha Jo.

The other split of OHSS for 3-year-old trotting fillies went to Get Chipped in 1:58.3 as she defeated Allthatnabagofchip and Dancing Thea.

Striking Lauren set the tempo in the race before Allthatnabagofchip challenged with Get Chipped in hot pursuit. In the stretch, Allthatnabagofchip got the lead but couldn’t hold off the favoured Get Chipped, driven by Russell Swartz for trainer Marty Wollam. The winner is owned by Acadia Farm and Pat Holden.

The track’s best pacing mares put on another great show in the Capital City Pace with four of the six starters just three-quarters of a length apart at the wire and another just another three-quarters back.

Danika Hanover and trainer-driver Kenny Kidd emerged victorious from this cat fight as she prevailed over Gran Cameo in 1:54.4 with Shell I Attack just a half-length back in third. Woes Jet Filly was fourth and Marvel Sahbra fifth.

Favoured Cat Burglar, who set the early pace, finished last as Danika Hanover swept by her rivals in the stretch to win.

Buckeye Racing LLC owns the gifted daughter of Western Hanover.
