Competition Heats Up At Adrenaline

The second day of the inaugural edition of Adrenaline, Canada’s Racing Festival, at Hiawatha Horse Park featured a pair of competitions pitting Canadian drivers against their American counterparts, and fillies against colts

Canada came out on top in the Canada vs. USA competition (Races 1-5). Canadian representative Brad Forward won two races while teamsters Nick Steward and Kevin Wallis each won a leg of the challenge boosting the team’s total score to 50 points. Terry Kerr and Don Rankin, Jr. also contributed to the winning team’s tally.

Festival organizers would like to thank the management at Hazel Park for allowing four of their top drivers to attend tonight's event. Art McIlmurray won the fourth leg of the challenge and Eric Carlson, Brad Kramer and Darrell Wright completed Team USA, which earned a total of 30 points.

Points were awarded as follows (with an extra point going to USA for each leg they were down one driver and an extra point to Nick Steward for each leg he sat out):

1st - 5 points
2nd - 4 points
3rd - 3 points
4th - 2 points
5th - 1 point

Forward put up the best score of the challenge earning 16 points, making him the individual winner.

In the Battle of the Sexes four-race challenge (Races 6-9), the ladies beat the boys earning a total of 38 points. Amigo Jill, Likaty and Macassie earned wins for the girls’ team. Stonebridge Leader won the second leg for the boys, who earned a total of 22 points.

Adrenaline continues all weekend long with Saturday featuring a full day of action starting at noon and running until midnight. Some of the main events include EquiMania, the Shaken and Stirred Bartenders Competition, McCann Dog Show, Professional Beach Volleyball demos and skills competition, the Ms. Adrenaline Bikini Contest, Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Tour, performances by local bands including Hello Bella, and of course, a full card of harness racing.

I believe the initial days have yielded very poor results. The Friday handle was Dresden or Woodstock like rather than befitting a "B" track. Hopefully, the organizers have learned to deal with a track where the owners place the interests of the public and horsemen above thier own. Good luck next year somewhere else than at Hiawatha.

How much SC money was spent on this scheme? Nice handle of under 8K... If this was Wall St. you guys would be getting a nice bonus. Nicely done!
