Early race-leader Monster In Law endured a first-over challenge from Fern Hill Breeze from the half through the homestretch and held onto a head advantage at the wire in the $5,000 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3 Pace at Clinton Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 12.

On top by the quarter in :29.2, Monster In Law was headed by Fern Hill Breeze moving by the half in :59 but the 4-5 favourite failed to clear entering the backstretch a final time. Fern Hill Breeze extended to a half-length lead over Monster In Law continuing to park him by three-quarters in 1:28.4 before losing ground into the final turn and giving Monster In Law a length lead at the head of the stretch. Monster In Law managed to hold onto a diminishing margin with Fern Hill Breeze blowing back into contention late to settle for second ahead of Sheldonthepsychic, riding the pocket, a close third.

A 13-year-old gelding by Northern Luck from the Jate Lobell mare Family Effott, Monster In Law, owned by trainer Don Beatson with partners Kenneth Beatson and Sandra & Ralph Pitt, won his second race in 22 starts and his 53rd in 350 overall, earning $506,413. Scott Wray drove the $8.80 winner.
