The first leg of the Island Breeders series is in the books, and it was Woodmere Bolt and Therealdeal who continued their divisional dominance Sunday afternoon (July 29) at Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway.

Therealdeal continued to live up to her name, as she won her $5,800 Callbeck Memorial stakes dash for two-year-old filly pacers with Walter Cheverie in the bike for trainer Joe Baxter and owners Jennifer Baxter and Gregory Francis of Windsor, N.S. The daughter of Westwardho Hanover recorded a mile of 2:01.4 en route to her third consecutive victory.

Magical Mistress recorded the fastest filly win with a mile of 1:58 for driver Adam Merner and trainer Stephen Gass. The other splits were claimed by So Much More in 2:00.3 for driver Mark Bradley and trainer Tom Weatherbie, and Woodmere Tango in 2:02.1 for trainer-driver Clare MacDonald.

In two-year-old pacing colt action, Woodmere Bolt continued his unbeaten streak in his fourth lifetime outing in his $6,750 Callbeck Memorial division with a time of 2:01. Earl Smith trains and drives the son of Malicious for owners Peter Smith of Stratford, Gerald Morrissey of Vernon River and Nova Scotia’s Arnold Hagen of Bible Hill.

The other $6,750 Callbeck colt divisions were won by Dusty Lane Cortez (driven by David Dowling) in 2:00.1 and Notorious (Marc Campbell) in 2:00.3.

In Callbeck action for two-year-old trotters, Windemerebarrister won the opening $5,600 split in 2:07 for trainer-driver Al McNeil, while the other division was claimed by Little Miss Winnie (Kenny Arsenault) in 2:06.4.

In other Island Breeders series action, the Sunday program played host to the newly named Tyndal Semple Memorial stakes for three-year-old trotters, and it was West River Cindy that blew up the tote board in her $4,600 division. Kenny MacDonald engineered the winning trip in 2:03.1 as the longest shot on the board at 34-1 while defeating Maritime champion Windemeredontuworry (Gilles Barrieau) and track record holder Buckaroo (Campbell).

West River Cindy is trained by Clare MacDonald, who had three conditions wins on the program including another Semple Memorial division with Miss Emerson Ridge in 2:06 with the trainer in the bike. The final Semple split saw Oceanview Eunomia victorious for driver Arsenault and trainer William Roloson.

Live racing continues on Prince Edward Island at both Red Shores locations in the coming week with programs Thursday and Saturday evenings at Red Shores Charlottetown and Sunday afternoon at Red Shores Summerside. For race replays and more, head to redshores.ca.
