A small, single-engine plane trying to make an emergency landing on Brittany Farms property during the late afternoon hours of Tuesday, July 28 crashed
. Fortunately, the pilot and his passenger left the plane with no apparent injuries.
According to the farm’s general manager, Art Zubrod, the plane’s two occupants were returning to Lexington, Kentucky’s Bluegrass Airport from a day trip to Owensboro, Kentucky. The pilot said he ran out of gas and was forced to land the plane in a pasture on the farm before it went through a fence and ended up on a farm road.
Brittany Farms is located on Pisgah Pike, between Lexington and Versailles, Kentucky, and only minutes from the airport.
A farm worker mowing in a pasture nearby at the time alerted farm manager Dale Logan and Zubrod to the incident, and authorities were called. No horses or other farm workers were nearby when the crash occurred about 4:00 p.m.
Zubrod said the plane’s pilot told him that he is a member of the Bluegrass Flying Club, based in Lexington.
