Sportswriter has taken the province by storm this season, and all you had to do was watch Monday’s Battle Of Waterloo and Battle Of The Belles eliminations if you wanted proof.

The white-hot sire has been on fire to start the 2014 season, and he produced four of the five elimination winners on the card.

Sporting The Look turned a second-over trip into a 1:56.1 victory in the first elimination of the Battle Of Waterloo. It was a nice bounce back performance for the son of Sportswriter-Lyons Mandi who made a break and finished up the track one week earlier in an OSS Gold Series division.

Go Daddy Go led the field through fractions of :27.4, :57.3 and 1:26.3, but he failed to fend off the late-brushing Sporting The Look who used a :29.1 closing quarter to win by 1-3/4 lengths. The 2-1 favourite defeated Go Daddy Go and Southwind Indy.

Jody Jamieson mapped out the winner trip for the colt who is trained and co-owned by Carl Jamieson of Rockwood, Ontario. The 30 Plus Stable of Trenton and Tom Kyron of Rockwood, Ontario co-own the youngster who improved his rookie record to 2-0-0 from four trips postward. Purchased for $72,000 from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale, the colt has banked $44,460 to date.

Sportskeeper gave Jody Jamieson the sweep of the Battle Of Waterloo elims thanks to a front-stepping score in 1:57.4.

The Casie Coleman pupil rolled to the top and chopped out fractions of :27.4, :58.2 and 1:29.1 before scooting home in :28.3 to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Sports Bettor. Bob Ben And John took home third prize.

The homebred son of Sportswriter-Keeper Flyin is 2-for-2 going into next Monday afternoon’s final for Merlin Howse of Langton and Casie Coleman of Cambridge, Ontario. The lion’s share of the $18,000 purse lifted his cash stash to $18,000.

Solar Sister posted a 10-1 upset for Team McNair in her $11,500 elimination of the Battle of The Belles. The daughter of Mach Three-Cabrini Hanover went down the road and prevailed in 1:58.

Doug McNair hustled the regally-bred lass to the lead from Post 7 and supplying fractions of :27.4, :57.4 and 1:28 she only needed a :30-second kicker to win by a quarter of a length over Win The Gold. Shes Dignified rounded out the top three finishers.

Gregg McNair trains the homebred youngster for David Willmot of King City and Clay Horner of Toronto, Ontario. It was her first win in three career attempts, and the lion’s share of the purse bumped her bankroll to $12,050.

Southwind Mischief overcame Post 8 and survived a first-over journey en route to capturing the second elimination in 1:57.2 for trainer Casie Coleman.

Chris Christoforou got away fifth with Southwind Mischief while Akissfromtheart and Wrangler Magic battled to the quarter pole in :27.4. Palette Tina took over the lead at the mid-way point in :57.1 and she was still in charge of the tempo at the three-quarter pole in 1:26.4. Southwind Mischief, in the meantime, was three-wide and kicking off her cover as the field headed into the final turn. She wore down Palette Tina and used a :30.2 closing quarter to win by a quarter of a length over Betts And The Jets. Sassafras Girl was a lapped-on third.

Sent off at odds of 5-1, Southwind Mischief improved her rookie record to 2-1-0 from three trips postward. The daughter of Sportswriter-Mondiane Hanover is owned by West Wins Stable, Southwind Farms LLC and Adriano Sorella. The $62,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale has banked $53,875 to date.

Sports Chic went to the front and didn’t look back en route to a 1:57 triumph in the final Battle Of The Belles elimination.

Jody Jamieson rushed daughter of Sportswriter-Vesta Blue Chip to the lead and she successfully wheeled the field through intervals of :28.2, :58.4 and 1:28.1 before uncorking a :28.4 closing quarter to post the win by 3-1/2 lengths over Business As Usual. Taking home the show dough was Capela.

Sent off as the 7-5 favourite, Sports Chic improved her freshman record to 3-1-0 from four trips to the track for trainer Blake MacIntosh. He co-owns the sister to Rainbow Blue (1:49.2 - $1,600,012) with Hutt Racing Stable of Paoli, Pennsylvania. She was a $35,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale.
