The winning trainer in this season’s Walter Dale Memorial will send out a contending horse in this week’s feature at Fredericton Raceway on Thursday, July 30

.

Stacy Gay will harness All Star Dragon, leaving from Post 4 in a seven horse field (Race 8) going for a $1,400 purse. Stephen Trites has the drive on the horse, but will be pressured throughout the mile with a very competitive field assembled.

Other contenders include Igoddarocket, which is to be driven by Mike Campbell from Post 3. The reigning Horse of the Year at Canada’s oldest racetrack, Elm Grove Camrose, has drawn Post 1 for owner-trainer Paul Burgess of Fredericton and driver Bill Watts. Watts is known as the 'Toughest Man at the Raceway' following his exploits in a strongman competition which was held at the track several years ago. He is also known in local sports circles as a hard-nosed blueliner in senior hockey during his time as a player.

While Stephen Trites is scheduled to pilot the 5-2 morning line favourite in Thursday’s feature, his brother Todd is not programmed to drive at the raceway. Todd will be involved in Atlantic Sires Stakes action at Truro Raceway on Thursday. He has the call on Found Wanting for Dr. Hugh Baird of Hampton, NB in an 'A' division for two-year-old pacing colts in the ATSS.

There will be ATSS activity as part of Old Home Week in Woodstock next week, with an expanded racing schedule this season. There are cards slated for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights at Connell Park with post times for all events at 7:00 p.m.
