Neon Lights In Rideau Preferred

Sent the even-money favourite, Neon Lights wired his competition in the $8,250 Preferred Handicap Trot at Rideau Carlton Raceway on Sunday, July 1.

Leaving from assigned post 7, Neon Lights took the lead from Flying Isa N and led through a :27.2 opening quarter. The Gerard Demers trainee trotted unpressured on the lead through a half in :58.1 and three-quarters in 1:27.1 Flying Isa N challenged from the pocket late in the stretch, finishing a half length away in second with Unbating five lengths back in third.

Neon Lights competes for owner La Ferme Tag Inc. The four-year-old gelding by Chapter Seven won for the fifth time in 11 starts this season and the eighth in 33 overall, earning $107,963. Jonathan Lachance steered the $4.00 winner.

Killer Thriller came from off the pace to take the $8,250 Preferred Handicap Pace by one-and-three-quarter lengths in 1:52.4.

The Jeremes Jet gelding parked to the quarter while Wildriverbumblebee led the field in :26.2. Settling into fifth, Killer Thriller stuck to the rail as Wildriverbumblebee paced unchallenged to the half in :55.3.

National Debt pulled first over and inched toward the pacesetter moving to three-quarters. Musselsfrmbrussels broke second over, leaving an opening for Killer Thriller to angle off the rail passing three-quarters in 1:24. Killer Thriller circled wide of National Debt into the stretch and pulled clear of his cover to win. Print Media, off a pocket trip, finished third.

Killer Thriller competes for co-owner and trainer Karen Kroeger and Gilles Plourde. Brett MacDonald piloted the $6.70 winner.
