Border Battle Set For Legion Day

Published: July 15, 2016 10:23 pm EDT

Sunday's eighth race at Dresden Raceway will be a battle of epic proportions as Michigan-owned and bred Barbies Belle and Ontario-owned and bred Isitfridayyet will square off.

There will be no world records set and there isn’t a million dollars up for grabs, but this will be a good old fashioned horse race with two up and comers. Barbies Belle is a three-year-old Sportswriter filly that has finished in the top three in all nine of her starts in 2016 including five wins. The Michigan entry is owned by Willis Clark of Redford, Michigan with trainer Michael Clark at the controls.

Isitfridayyet is a slightly more experienced three-year-old No Pan Intended gelding that also has five wins in 2016 along with three seconds and two thirds in 20 starts. Leon Mansfield of Strathroy, Ont. is the owner and trainer while Mark Williams is the teamster.

Barbies Belle was an easy six-length winner over the Dresden track last week in 1:59 while Isitfridayyet got parked in some torrid fractions at Grand River and finished ninth as the race went in 1:56.2.

Sunday will also feature Legion Day at Dresden Raceway, where members of the local Branch 113 of the Royal Canadian Legion will be honoured for the work they do in the community and the veterans will be honoured for their valour. As usual there will be lots of giveaways, contests and draws at Dresden Raceway with a 1:30 p.m. post time.
