Run And Tell Pap Prevails In Preferred

Given a second-quarter breather, Run And Tell Pap had enough in the tank to hold off serious late challenges inside and out and capture Monday’s $22,500 Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

Dave Palone hustled Run And Tell Pap to the lead and through a spritely :27.4 opening panel before throwing on the brakes. Following a comfortable :29.3 second quarter, Run And Tell Pap thwarted the Lightning Lane bid of Trotslikethewind — the only mare in the field — and the first over challenge of Bettis. He scored in 1:53.4, a head better than Trotslikethewind, with Bettis a close-up third.

Ron Burke trains Run And Tell Pap, a High Falls-Adeles Jade gelding who now boasts $380,471 in career earnings, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and M1 Stable.

Aaron Merriman drove four winners on the 15-race card.

Tuesday’s program at The Meadows features seven divisions of a $140,000 Pennsylvania Stallion Series stake for two-year-old filly trotters; first post is 12:55 p.m. Also on Tuesday, The Meadows will draw post positions for Saturday’s eliminations for the $600,000 (est.) Delvin Miller Adios. The Adios box closes at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
