Hat Trick For Moreau; Hi-5 Paid Out

Trainer Richard Moreau sent three winners on the Saturday (July 11) card at Woodbine Mohawk Park, including the winner of the $30,000 featured pace.

Driver Louis-Philippe Roy steered Legion Seelster off a pylon trip to a narrow victory in the top pace on the card—a non-winners of $30,000 in last five starts event.

Points North landed on the lead before a :26.1 opening quarter and maintained that speed through fractions of :53.3 and 1:21.1. Sports Column parked first over through the mile while 7-5 favourite Matticulous GB stalked from the pocket.

Points North continued to lead into the stretch but began to shorten in stride. Matticulous GB pulled pocket but drifted towards the centre of the course as he challenged for the lead. Legion Seelster then had open road to sweep past horses to the lead, angling wide of Points North in the final sixteenth to win by a head over Matticulous GB. Points North settled for third.

A four-year-old gelding by Sunshine Beach, Legion Seelster won his fifth race from 14 starts this season and his 12th from 31 overall, earning $152,605. Gaston Bibeau and Ecurie CSL own the $7.60 winner.

Moreau’s other two victories preceded his win in the evening’s feature. He capped the early double with a win by Morally Flexible ($14.40) and then returned to the winner’s circle two races later with Sandbetweenurtoes ($7.70).

The latest Jackpot Hi-5 mandatory payout at Woodbine Mohawk Park generated $948,371 in new money wagered on Saturday night.

Entering with a carryover of $250,903.30, horseplayers came out in full force to take a swing at the Jackpot Hi-5 mandatory payout. Iwontdothatagain (#6, 7/2) and driver Louis-Philippe Roy prevailed in a tight Win photo over Hervey Hanover (#8, 5/2) and driver Phil Hudon.

The massive Jackpot Hi-5 combined with strong pools throughout the 11-race card generated a total handle of $3.3 million.
