It was a SportsCentre moment yesterday, as Boomer Berman, a 14-year-old gelding that will call it a career at the end of the 2010 season, was victorious on 'Boomer Berman Day' at Buffalo Raceway.

'Boomer' used a thrilling come-from-behind approach for his 85th career victory.

Post-time favourite Splendid Les (driven by Kevin Cummings) set all the fractions and held a six-length lead at the three-quarters pole.

Regular driver Jack Flanigen had settled Boomer to last at the beginning of the race.

Using cover from Catch That Yank, Boomer made his move on the backstretch, and by the time the three-quarters timer flashed to life he was up to third.

Having to go wide in the final turn, Boomer overtook the lead in the stretch and never looked back.

Catch all the action at Buffalo Raceway Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with a 6:40 p.m. first-race post time. First post on Sundays is at 1:05 p.m. through July 25.
