After settling for second prize in last week’s $10,000 Open Pace at Century Downs, Cool Cowboy returned to the oval and posted a sharp victory in Monday’s edition of the class for trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt.

Hoerdt, who wound up winning the first three races on the card, hustled Cool Cowboy to the lead and together they led the field through fractions of :27.2, :57 and 1:25.1 before sprinting home in :28.2 to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Read The Proposal in 1:53.3. Johnny Gun took home third prize.

Sent off as the 2-5 favourite in the six-horse affair, Cool Cowboy posted the comfortable win for Hoerdt and partners Blair Corbeil and Witsend Consulting Inc. The five-year-old son of Brandons Cowboy-Cool Grin now owns a 4-3-2 record from 10 starts this season. The 17-time winner boasts lifetime earnings of $246,758.
