It wasn’t much of a night weather wise, but several children were happy they went to the racetrack on Saturday night. In celebration of the popular sport and the end of school, Hanover Raceway held Hockeyville Night sponsored by Hanover Walmart.

Children 13 and under wearing hockey jerseys got to enter to win a brand new bicycle. The winners included Bryer Nicole Hooyenga of Durham, Ont., newborn Kantayah, Justin Francis of Hanover, Ont., and Josh Sicard of Markdale, Ont.

On the track, J Harris led all drivers with three wins while Bruce Richardson and Stu Sowerby each had driving doubles.

Terry Fritz steered sophomore colt Preppy Art to his fourth win in a row in the final dash. The son of Art Colony, who is also owned and trained by Fritz, led from start to finish in a time of 2:02.3 on a track listed as five seconds off due to heavy rains.

July 4 marks the start of the Country 93 Survivor Handicapping Contest. Fans will find a ballot in their program and are asked to pick one horse in each of four races. If all four finish in first, second or third place in their respective races, the fan gets to come back for the Survivor finale on August 15 for a chance at three great prizes including a High Definition big screen TV. Post time on Saturday, July 4 is 7:15 p.m.
