West Grey Bay is off to a perfect start to 2016 as the eight-year-old gelding notched his third straight victory on Friday night (June 10) with a winning performance in the $7,500 Preferred 3 Trot at Grand River Raceway.
Following a pair of front-end victories at Clinton Raceway and Flamboro Downs last month, West Grey Bay headed to Grand River where he tracked the cover of Lexus Rocky in the feature event and nosed out that rival at the wire in 1:59.4. Excellence finished five lengths behind in third over Constantino and favourite E L Rock.
Bob McClure drove the winner, who paid $16.90 as the 7-1 third choice on the toteboard.
A homebred son of Fiesty G G and Parkside Princess, West Grey Bay has now won 14 of his 85 career starts while earning $73,622 in purses for owner/trainer Keith Hastie of Priceville, Ont.
