Team Zeron took home top prize in Tuesday’s feature race – the $12,800 Preferred Trot - at Grand River

Raceway with a new acquisition named Merited Victory.

The four-year-old son of Victory Sam-Stephanie Merit was in no hurry in the early stages of the contest, but he used a strong back-half kick to post the 1:58.2 victory for driver Scott Zeron. He shares ownership on the gelding with Percy Elkins of Campbellville and Rick Zeron Stables of Oakville, ON.

Race favourite Presidents Choice laid down fractions of :28.4, :59.3 and 1:29 before giving way to Merited Victory, who blew by that foe going into the final turn before drawing away to win by more than four lengths. Presidents Choice held on for the runner-up award and Nobananas was third.

The win was the third of the season in just seven tries for Merited Victory, who is a 19-time winner in his career. He has banked more than $133,000 to date.
