The first foal of one of harness racing's most dynamic performers was recently delivered at Stoneb

ridge Farm in Arva, Ont.

A Kadabra filly out of the great trotting mare Peaceful Way was born on June 3, 2009 at 4:00 a.m. Co-owner Angie Stiller told Trot Insider that the foal born to a surrogate mare got her life off to the same start as her mom.

"The birth of Peaceful Way's first baby - in the same stall that Peaceful Way was carried into when she was born - was a very special occasion for us," Stiller stated. "She doesn't look like her mom - as you can see, she's quite leggy. But it's exactly what we and Bart Glass wanted as the outcome from a cross with Kadabra. We wanted the same heart and lungs as her mom, just longer legs. We'll have to wait and see about the heart and lungs!"

There was one glitch with the delivery date, however. Stiller had to deliver the foal without her husband.

"Cal was away that night so it fell to me to deliver this precious cargo," remarked Stiller. "She's perfect and I'm so relieved."

AWESOME. Congratulations.

I wonder why Peaceful Way did not carry the foal.

Great question. According to the Stillers, she was in foal with twins. When one was pinched off, the other aborted. After that she had trouble cycling - that often happens - and she didn't get in foal until July. At that point, a surrogate carried the foal.

Peaceful Way is in foal to Muscles Yankee (has been since March) and is carrying this one herself.
