Horsemen flooded into the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Delaware, OH, on May 8, seeking racehorses and breeding stock among the 404 horses catalogued. There were a lot of happy buyers and happy sellers with very few RNAs.

“The Standardbred market is surging right now,” said sale manager Jerry Haws. “Better purses are driving demand for racehorses. The Amish are bidding against trainers at the lower level for buggy horses and the breeders are after the better race mares. Add equestrians searching for pleasure mounts at the bottom, and it’s a very positive dynamic.”

Open pacer Control Tower, from the Stephan Sexton consignment, topped the sale at $54,000. A winner in 1.50.2 at Miami Valley Gaming in his last start, the five-year old son of Panspacificflight was purchased by Dynasty Racing of Michigan.

Runner-up honours went to the six-year old Preferred trotter Angels Ransom who was racing competitively at the Meadows. Black Magic Racing purchased the son of Revenue for $51,000.

Frank Chick brought a nice consignment from Delaware including the four-year old Bettors Delight gelding Solo Story. Cory Stratton of New York signed the ticket for the promising conditioned pacer for $27,000.

Meadowbrook Glider, a precocious winner in his first start, was purchased by Tony Schadel of PA for $25,000. The four-year old son of Justice Hall was consigned by Ian Yoder.

Burke Racing Stable always brings a good group of racehorses and the mares often have dual broodmare potential. Albert Miller of Ohio picked up the $470,000 winning mare Pan Luis Obispo p,1:50.4 for $23,000 with an eye toward breeding.

Versatile five-year old conditioned pacer Allstar Energy was purchased by Mark Beckwith of NY for $25,000.

Rene Allard brought seven to sell and left with a dozen new ones. Among his purchases was a pair of promising Roll With Joe offspring. Allard signed the ticket for the solid Yonkers competitor Roll With Josie for $23,000 from Jean Drolet and the three-year old maiden Take The Wheel for $20,500 from Sam Schillaci.

The next Blooded Horse Sale is August 28-29 and will feature a black type yearling session in addition to racehorses and breeding stock. Black type entries close July 1. Entries for the main catalogue will close around July 15. Check for details at bloodedhorse.com.
