Motown Muscle Eyes Casual Breeze

Despite going winless in three starts this season, driver Mario Baillargeon has given his trotting star, Motown Muscle, a full bill of confidence.

The Milton resident is hoping things will all change on Friday when Motown Muscle goes postward in her division of the Casual Breeze at Mohawk.

The daughter of Muscle Mass is fresh off a third-place finish in the $162,765 SBOA Stakes final, which was captured by the O’Brien Award-winning Bee A Magician.

The pair have faced-off twice already this season and numerous times last year with Bee A Magician getting the upper hand.

“She (Bee A Magician) looks like she’s in a class of her own right now,” Baillargeon said. “Hopefully we don’t see much of her this season due to Grand Circuit events, but, I certainly like my filly. She has raced very well so far this season and I’m very happy with her. She’s come back in great shape and she’s certainly a top OSS filly.”

Motown Muscle banked a handsome $125,850 last year for owner/breeder Bet Max Stables along with Benenati Inc, while Baillargeon’s brother, Ben, handles the conditioning.

“She grew up quite a bit from last year,” Mario said. “She got wider in the shoulders and filled out. She’s more of a complete filly this year.”

Motown Muscle has been assigned post one in race four in her division of the $75,000 Casual Breeze.

“We were fortunate enough to miss Bee A Magician as she’s in the other division,” Baillargeon said. “It’s a short field and my filly is very versatile. I can do whatever I want with her, which makes my job a lot easier.”

Motown Muscle remains eligible to the Elegantimage, which features eliminations on Saturday, June 8 followed by the final on Saturday, June 15 at Mohawk.
