After two weeks of runner-up finishes, veteran pacer J N J was able to capture the weekly $1,150 feature pace at Northside Downs on Saturday (May 27).

With Roddy Cory Hurley at the controls, favoured J N J sat third in the early going while Brother John (Randy Getto) carved out strong fractions of :29.4 and 1:01.4 over the track rated slow and off three seconds. Hurley had J N J advancing first-over on the pacesetter and was able to collar Brother John by the 1:33 third station. After opening up a two-length lead at the top of the stretch, J N J had to fend off last week's winners over winner Dreamfair Van Dam (John Gerard Kennedy), who closed with powerful pace but fell three parts of a length short. J N J tripped the timer in 2:03.2, ahead of Dreamfair Van Dam and Gotfaithincowboys (Angus Bates).

A 12-year-old altered son of Rambaran - Choctaw, J N J is trained by William Seymour, who co-owns with Arlene MacIntosh of Glace Bay, N.S. He now boasts 33 lifetime wins and more than $64,000 in purses earned.
