Summer Travel disappointed as the betting favourite in his season’s debut on May 10 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, but in Thursday’s follow-up performance everything was just peachy.
The Casie Coleman trainee was sent off as the 3-5 favourite, and he was handled like one in the 1:50.3 triumph.
Summer Travel got away third before brushing to the top in the backstretch. Louis Philippe Roy got the sophomore into gear, and after clearing to the top they went on to lead the field through middle panels of :56 and 1:23.3. A :27-second closing quarter earned the speedster the win by 3-1/4 lengths over the pocket-sitting Trump That in 1:50.3. Ghost Dance was third. All three pacers remain eligible to next month’s Pepsi North America Cup
The son of Western Ideal-Shark Tail went 3-for-4 as a rookie for owners West Wins Stable, Mac Nichol and Calhoun Racing Ltd. The four-time winner has banked $43,760 to date.
