Watch My Luck Breaks Through

After knocking on the doorstep in recent weeks, Watch My Luck ($11.70) finally broke through for a win against the top pacing mares in Alberta during Saturday's card at Century Downs.

Driver Nathan Sobey had five-year-old Watch My Luck patiently pacing from the pocket while Nighttraintovegas (Jim Marino) carved out early fractions of :27.4 and :56.2 over a gapped-out field.

As the field tightened down the backside, Sobey right-lined Watch My Luck and forged to the front just before the 1:25 third station. With a push to bottom out the field, Sobey asked Watch My Luck for more and the duo opened up by five at the head of the lane. Stablemate Tajmeallover (J.F. Gagne) was launched four-wide from the backfield and she closed on the leader with every stride but fell three-parts a length short with Watch My Luck tripping the timer in 1:54.4. Remember Terror (Mike Hennessy) was the third-place finisher.

Trained by Majorie Dumont, Watch My Luck (Camluck-Watch Over Me) now boasts a 3-2-0 summary from seven seasonal starts and $19,158 in purses for J.F. Gagne, Peter Van Seggelen and Carl Warnaar.

The Harold Haining stable was on fire Saturday afternoon with winners in three of nine races. Brandon Campbell drove Joyful Sound ($7.90) and Cenalta Shade ($5) to victories, then Mike Hennessy reined home Cowgirl Poker ($7.90) to complete Haining's training triple.

Jennifer Clark celebrated her first career training victory with her season-debuting homebred filly Legs Like Tina ($4.60). The three-year-old daughter of Lil Dude Starrbuck-Whatwilbywilby prevailed by half a length over Royal Mistress to break her maiden in 2:00.1 with Keith Clark in the bike.
