Say 'Cheese' Mr. McGuigan!

Over six decades ago, Charlottetown, PEI resident Jack McGuigan made North American standardbred racing history when, at the age of 16, he became the youngest pilot to record a stakes victory

. Strangely enough, it has taken until 2009 to get his picture taken for his local publication.

In an article which appears in The Guardian, Nicholas Oakes explains that McGuigan will be honoured Friday during a special colt stakes’ 75th anniversary banquet in Summerside.

The reason McGuigan never had his picture taken? Well, Oakes explains it perfectly, painting a picture of a very different time.
