Zorgwijk Fortunate Upsets In Preferred

Zorgwijk Fortunate rewarded his backers with a nice payout when he scored in Grand River Raceway's Tuesday night feature event - the $12,800 Preferred #2 Trot

Making his usual early move off the gate, Zorgwijk Fortunate landed on top from Post 4 with J.R. Plante at the lines. The seven-year-old son of Wesgate Crown, who was sent to post at odds of 10-1, carved out opening splits of :28 and 1:00.2.

At that point, Trot Your Sox Off (Wayne Henry) had rolled first-up but failed to made headway compelling Tymal Cherub (Callie Rankin) to angle wide at the third quarter mark of 1:30.4 followed by Cinder Lane Chip (Scott Zeron). Having secured a two-length lead on the field by three-quarters, Zorgwijk Fortunate was able to hold on for the win in 1:59.4 by half a length.

Cinder Lane Chip came on for second and Tymal Cherub finished third.

David Jim King trains the winner of 21 races and over $284,000 for Mario Delgobbo of Maple, Ont. The bay gelding notched his fourth win of ’09 giving him nearly $30,000 on the year.
