Hefty Fine, Suspension For Hornick

Via a notice to the industry, the Ontario Racing Commission today slapped the recently charged Ken Hornick with a considerable immediate suspension and hefty fine.

Hornick's ORC license has been suspended for a period of 15 years and he has been ordered a $60,000 fine.

"The ORC will not tolerate the use, possession, acquisition of -- and especially those supplying -- illegal substances to horse racing," said ORC deputy director Rob McKinney. "The entire horse racing community wants to rid itself of these few people who continue to engage in these types of activities."

On December 11, 2007, police attended a residence located on Forrestdale Circle in Mississauga, ON to execute two search warrants for illegal drugs under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Food and Drugs Act.

Police seized quantities of controlled drugs and unlabeled doctored substances during the execution of the search warrants.

Hornick, 43, of Mississauga, is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and ten counts of unlawfully did have in his possession for sale drugs contrary to the Food and Drug Act.
