Central Huron Series Sequel At Clinton

The second leg of the Central Huron Series was contested at Clinton Raceway on Sunday, as trotters and pacers flocked to half-mile oval looking to pick up enough points

to advance to next weeks finals.

Twelve divisions, each worth $8,000, were served up this afternoon and here’s a recap of what transpired:

CENTRAL HURON STAKES – COLTS & GELDINGS TROT

M T L Maple found his way to victory lane for the second week-in-a-row thanks to his 2:05 score in the opening split for driver Mike Whelan and owner/trainer/breeder Walter Whelan. The son of Malabar Maple drew off to win by three lengths over Gambino. Piracy rallied to finish third.

Now You See Him was a maiden-breaking winner in the second division for the tandem of trainer Ondrej Gois and driver Jody Jamieson. The son of Kadabra, who was sent off as the 3-5 favourite, won by more than three lengths over Carscot Quixote in a time of 2:04. Waytogo Abra rounded out the top three.

CENTRAL HURON STAKES – FILLIES & MARES TROT

Lucrative Lady, who entered her assignment with an 0-for-7 record, broke out of her slump for driver Ross Battin and owner/trainer Bill Borth. The Duke Of York miss led through fractions of :33, 1:06.2 and 1:38.2 en route to posting the 2:09 decision over Windsong Felicity and Paco Patti.

Taylorlane Express pulled off a 10-1 upset in her assignment for the duo of trainer Frank O’Reilly and driver Garrett Rooney. The daughter of Abundance did most of the roadwork en route to posting the 2:04.3 clocking over runner-up Beginish and third-place finisher Incredible Lexy.

Paco Brandy posted the first win of her career in the third division for the team of driver Gord Rayner and owner/trainer Wayne Langille. The Yankee Paco filly drew off to win by more than six-lengths over Heather Ley Miss. Despite making a gate break, Louise Albert was third. The mile was clocked in 2:05.4.

CENTRAL HURON STAKES – COLTS & GELDINGS PACE

Sign Of Fame was a repeat winner for trainer Fred Jewell and driver Jody Jamieson. The homebred daughter of Apaches Fame, who is owned by Rob Chapple, drew off to win by three lengths in a time of 2:01. She sprinted home in :28.3 to post the win over Cammiofthenorth and Mudriggin.

Greystone Cash recovered from a gate break to take his assignment in a time of 2:01.1 for trainer Bruce Goit and driver Anthony Haughan. The son of Million Dollar Cam dug himself out of a deep hole thanks in part to a final quarter clocked in :28.3. He won as he pleased over Rammy Sammy and Beechwood Terror.

Tapioca Blues gave Jody Jamieson his third winner on the program thanks to a 1:59.1 triumph for trainer Andy Hardy. The son of No Pan Intended survived the first-over trip en route to hauling down pacesetter Exotic Man RJ, who finished second. Tommy Tiger grabbed the show dough.

Lyons Trick blew away the competition he faced last week, and he was a comfortable winner in this afternoon’s assignment, as well. Trained by Bruce Goit and driven by Anthony Haughan, the son of Camluck drew off to win by two lengths in a time of 2:01 over Call To See and Seahorse Run.

CENTRAL HURON STAKES – FILLIES & MARES PACE

Rhianne front-stepped her way to a 2:01.1 decision for trainer Ray Bunn and driver Jody Jamieson. It was a career-best clocking for the daughter of Rambaran, who drew off to win by three lengths over April Dilinger. Third prize was earned by Fontana Seelster, who recovered from an early break.

Her Perogative blasted off cover and drew off to win by more than two lengths in a time of 2:00.3 for driver Trevor Henry and owner/trainer Marysa Snider. The Aces N Sevens miss, who defeated Chatsworth and Kennairn Wendy May, is now 4-for-5 in her career.

Trickysmasterpiece gave Jody Jamieson his fifth trip to the winner’s circle on the Sunday matinee. He guided the Jack Wray-trained daughter of Modern Art to a 2:00.1 victory over Wortherweightnoats and Super Kitty. It was the filly’s first lifetime win in 11 starts.

The top point earners from each of the categories will have the chance to advance to their respective finals next Sunday afternoon at Clinton Raceway.
