Three-year-old pacing filly Warrawee Rap broke her maiden on Saturday afternoon (April 9) at Century Downs to the delight of a large group of new owners from the Century Downs Racing Club.

Trained and driven by Gerry Hudon for the Racing Club, Warrawee Rap prevailed in the afternoon's $5,200 third race for filly and mare maidens.

The 2-5 favourite was gapped back in fourth-place through fractions of :28.4, :57.4 and 1:29.1 before coming on to score the 2:00.3 victory over 7-2 second choice Joyful Sound. Whysantanna was the best of the rest, finishing 11-1/2 lengths behind in third.

More than 50 new owners purchased a share in the Century Downs Racing Club this year for just $250 each. The Club owns two horses, including the Mach Three filly Warrawee Rap and four-year-old pacing mare Southwind Luna, who has not yet raced for the newly formed group put together by the racetrack's marketing department. Members will get to experience all that is involved in horse ownership throughout the Century Downs harness racing season. So far, it's been a great start for the group with Warrawee Rap earning two close seconds and today's victory in her first three starts since the Club launched in late-March.

In other Saturday action, Nighttraintovegas pulled off another upset victory in the $10,300 Fillies & Mares Open for trainer/driver Nathan Sobey and owners Dick Schneider of Sherwood Park and David Halmosi of Edmonton. A 42-1 surprise Open winner two starts ago, the five-year-old Camystic mare did it again, this time at odds of 16-1 as the race's longest shot.

Nighttraintovegas rallied three-wide from the backfield with 6-5 favourite Tajmeallover following and just edged out that mare by a head at the wire for the 1:58.2 victory. Jet Hot Stuff came on for third over 3-2 Sing Like An Angel, who had a two-hole trip behind pacesetter G Ts Selene through panels of :29.4, :58.4 and 1:29.3. Nighttraintovegas paid $34.20 to win.
