Hubert Riedel Memorial To Slave Dream

Slave Dream and driver David Ingraham swept three-wide on the final turn and gunned down Farmer Jones to win Monday’s $16,000 Hubert Riedel Memorial Trot at Pompano

Park.

The third race feature saw some early hardball as Diva Diva, the lone mare in the field, parked out race favourite Blessed Victory past the opening quarter in :27.1. Blessed Victory worked to the lead and proceeded to take the field to the mid-way point in :56.4 before feeling pressure from Farmer Jones.

Down the backstretch, Farmer Jones gained ground on the leaders and was able to collar and then pass Blessed Victory at the three-quarter station in 1:25.2. Slave Dream, in the meantime, was rolling three-wide to get after the leaders.

Farmer Jones looked to be home free in the stretch, but Ingraham had Slave Dream trotting up a storm. They were able to catch Farmer Jones before the wire to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:55. Farmer Jones held for the runner-up award and Karpathos finished third.

It was the first win in four starts this year and a lifetime record for Slave Dream. The four-year-old son of Pearsall Hanover, who is trained by Jean Beaulieu, is owned by Franco Cianci, Isidoro Russo and Vincenzo Monticciolo of Quebec.

The race was named in memory of long time horse owner and Pompano Park patron, Hubert Riedel, who passed away last year. Riedel owned more than 200 race horse during his career. His top horse was $600,000 winner, Final Score. He also owned the popular Gold Coast Car Rental Agency in Ft. Lauderdale.
