Whistling Hanover parlayed a perfect, pocket trip into a 1:55.2 victory for the tandem of driver Stephane Brosseau and trainer Colin Johnson in Sunday’s $12,100 Preferred Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway.

Brosseau plugged the five-year-old son of Riverboat King into the garden spot while Best Show In Town – the winner of last week’s Preferred Pace – rolled the field through panels of :27.1, :56.3 and 1:25.2. Whistling Hanover went on the offensive in the lane and used :29.3 final quarter speed to propel himself to the 1:55.2 decision.

Best Show In Town, who was sent off at odds of 11-1, held on for the runner-up award while Match Bayama closed from out of the clouds to round out the top three in the nine-horse affair.

Kellogg Racing Stables LL of Queensbury, NY claimed Whistling Hanover for $20,000 on March 20 at Woodbine Racetrack, and in his first star for the new barn he has picked up a win and a second-place finish. In the process he has recouped $8,525 of his price tag. The pacer has banked $229,241 to date.
