Target Marketing To New People

"When I'm marketing I'm thinking about new people and I think this is a new scenario for horse racing to wrap their minds around."

Based on his knowledge of minor league baseball, freelance writer Bob Carson makes his pitch for turning the racetrack into an experience that is solely marketed for new fans. On today's Trot Radio, Norm Borg and Carson recount stories with successful minor league baseball general managers, including one that felt he could do a better job marketing harness racing than baseball as our game is much more exciting.

Carson states that Miles Wolff, owner of the Quebec Capitales once told him that "When it comes to marketing, we basically forget about the hardcore fan - they're going to come and they're going to stick like barnacles on a ship."

Another general manager agreed: "If you have a successful franchise and you want to just stick to the core people, you're going to have trouble - you're going to have to get to the new audience."
