Sandbetweenurtoes had to go to the bottom of the well Friday evening at Mohawk Racetrack in order to extend her winning streak to three in a row in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace.

With Doug McNair at the controls, Sandbetweenurtoes got away fourth while Bernadette fired to the top and chopped out the first quarter in :27.1. Sandbetweenurtoes was on the move in the backstretch, and her backstretch acceleration put her on the lead while racing parked past the half in :55.3.

She maintained the lead by three-quarters of a length over the first-over Request For Parole at the three-quarter pole in 1:23 before sprinting home in :28.1 to win by a head over that foe in 1:51.1. Third prize in the six-mare affair went to Exhilarated.

Sent off as the 1-2 favourite, the Richard Moreau trainee improved this year’s record to 6-3-1 from 12 starts with the win. The six-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Als Girl, who is owned by Brad Grant of Milton, Ont., has banked close to $900,000 in her career.
