Here’s your chance to race against some of Canada’s top harness horse drivers. You won’t be driving horses though...you’ll be running against them!
The field for the 2014 edition of the Giddy Up & Gallop 5K run at Mohawk Racetrack on Sunday, May 25 includes Billy Davis Jr., Sylvain Filion and Jody Jamieson. They’ll all be lining up on foot behind the starting gate car and running in the event to show their support for Friends of We Care to raise $ to send disabled children to summer camp.

I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club Ambassador and harness horse owner Sydney Weaver has had the opportunity to attend the Easter Seals Camp Woodeden in London for the past three summers and was able to share some of her experiences with us.
"I get to do so many fun activities while I’m at camp! I get to do everything from sledge hockey, wheelchair basketball, archery, pottery, swimming and rock climbing wall. It’s hard for me to pick my favourite activity but near the top of my list are the high ropes course, rock climbing wall and the Swing!
"At camp, the campers don’t see each other’s disabilities, only friends. And the councillors are the same way, they don’t see their campers disabilities only their abilities."
Sydney tells us that on the very last night they have a Banquet, with a “fancy dinner, followed by a dance, then a video that showcases the last 10 days of amazing fun and memories that we have shared!”
In addition to the 5K run, the Giddy Up & Gallop also features a one lap children’s run for kids 14 and under. All kids in the One Lap run will each receive a free t-shirt. All runners will enjoy a complimentary BBQ after the run and there will be great prizes, some horses on site and much more! The races start at 10:30 a.m.
Winners in each age category will receive a unique horseshoe medal or trophy.
