The betting public was bang on when it came to identifying Its A Big Secret as the horse to beat in Monday’s Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers.

Its A Big Secret went to the front and didn’t look back en route to an easy victory in the $8,500 affair.

Scott Coulter got away second in the early stages when Mister X made a bold move to the lead from Post 7, but Coulter didn’t settle for the garden spot behind that foe. Instead, he teed off in the backstretch and hustled his charge to the lead as the zipped by the quarter pole in :28.3. He went on to slice out middle splits of :58 and 1:26.2 before using a :29.1 final frame to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Mister X in 1:55.3. Third prize was earned by Reel.

Trainer Dean Nixon co-owns the seven-year-old son of Matts Scooter-Its Dragon Time with Justin Nixon of Amherstburg, Ont. The gelding now owns a 6-1-1 record from 14 trips to the track this season. The 25-time winner has banked just shy of $125,000 to date.
