A survey that was available online for three weeks in March has come to the conclusion that the majority of London, Ont. residents are in favour of expanded gaming in the city.

According to an article by Global News, the survey attracted 727 participants, 69 per cent of which supported the idea of expanded casino offerings within London’s borders.

The Global News piece also states that London’s strategic policy committee is scheduled to discuss the survey’s findings during a Monday (April 23) meeting that will be open to the public.

London officials conveyed to the province six years ago that the city was a willing host community for gaming expansion. According to the report, city staff have now recommended that the council officially approve expanded gaming for London.

The survey results come on the heels of delayed expansion negotiations at the Western Fair District. Hugh Mitchell, Western Fair’s chief executive, recently explained that the complex is committed to retaining and expanding casino gaming on its premises, despite the fact that negotiations surrounding the future of gaming at the location have stalled.
