Armbro Chronicle Cruises In Open Trot

Winning the $50,000 Open Trot at Woodbine Racetrack on Monday evening was as easy as taking candy from a baby for millionaire Armbro Chronicle.

The sure-footed seven-year-old scooted to the front for driver Mike Saftic and didn’t look back en route to posting a 1:55.4 victory over a rain-soaked racing strip.

Armbro Chronicle laid down panels of :27, :57.2 and 1:27.2 before kicking home in :28.2 to seal the deal. San Pail rallied to grab the runner-up spot despite getting off to a slow start, and Windsun Lane grabbed the show dough in the nine-horse affair. Odds-on favourite Sakic Seelster made multiple breaks and finished eighth.

Trainer Kent Baker, who co-owns the son of Self Possessed with Randy Fielder, Jo Smith and Cal Patterson, watched the gelding pick up his fifth win of the season in just his ninth trip behind the gate. It was the 33rd lifetime tally for the career winner of $1,114,392.
