Porter Top Canadian At WHHC

Bill Porter, from Elora, Ont., was the top-finishing Canadian in the inaugural edition of the World Harness Handicapping Championship held at the Meadowlands Racetrack this past weekend.

Porter, the reigning Trot Canada National Handicapping Champion from 2011, finished in the 14th spot out of 107 players, with a bankroll of $402. The winning bankroll was $1,334.

From all accounts, the event was a tremendous success and the Canadian contingent had a fantastic time, despite not hitting the board.

Here’s how the rest of the Canadian players fared:

The World Harness Handicapping Championship final was won by Jeff Klahr of Erie, Pennsylvania. He took home the grand prize of $40,000 along with top harness handicapper bragging rights.

The WHHC contest format required players to bet 10 races: their choice of seven Meadowlands races, plus three designated mandatory races from partner tracks. Players had a $400 betting card and were required to make a $40 minimum bet per race, with a $100 maximum. Wagers were restricted to Win and Place and one horse per race. Players kept all pari-mutuel winnings.
